Take *good* care of yourself.
Hey ZORA fam!
One month of quarantine, social distancing, self isolation (whatever you want to call it) down! And many more months likely to come. I hope you’re all taking care of yourselves and I mean really taking care of yourselves.
After weeks of isolation, I’ve convinced myself that doing the bare minimum every day is good for my mental health. I’ve been eating all the snacks I want, letting dishes pile up, staying in bed all day watching Netflix and calling it “self-care.”
In reality, I’m just being lazy.

This week in ZORA, author Luvvie Ajayi Jones shared a list of all of the things we need to keep and get rid of once quarantine is lifted and things go back to normal. Included in the keep list is taking good care of ourselves. “This slowdown has allowed many of us to recharge and reset,” she writes. “We should continue to prioritize our mental health and well-being.”
I’m learning that real self-care isn’t always about doing what feels good in the moment (like sleeping in or binging food and Netflix). Sometimes, self-care means taking care of things that you’re going to be grateful for down the line (like getting out of bed and eating healthy foods).

Luvvie’s list is an important call to action to be better to ourselves and others when the pandemic ends. Let’s all commit to leaving bad quarantine habits behind once we emerge into our new normal.
Lots of love,

This week…
📚 I’m reading: Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. The hit Hulu series wraps up this week but I’m in the middle of the novel that started it all. It’s hard to put down!
I’m also deep into Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler (a ZORA Canon Book Club selection). Join us for our discussions on Instagram!
📺 I’m watching: Blogilates on YouTube. In an effort to combat my quarantine complacency, I’m trying to do home workouts every day. Cassey Ho’s Pop Pilates workouts are easy to follow, fun to do and leave my body with a satisfying burn that keeps me coming back to the mat.
🛍 I’m shopping: The Jungalow. I recently moved into a new home and since it’s looking like I’ll be stuck in these four walls for a while, I’m doing my best to make my self-isolation as beautiful and peaceful as possible with cool bohemian home decor.
🌜 I’m looking forward to: The new moon in Taurus. New moons are a great time to set intentions, start new routines and let go of habits that no longer serve you. Check out this week’s ZORAscope to learn more about the moon and find out how the cosmos might affect your journey in the coming days.
