Why Kamala Harris Doesn’t Get as Much Black Love as Michelle Obama

Outside of entertainment public figures, Kamala Harris and Michelle Obama are arguably the most known Black women in America. In fact, in a study of the most Googled Black women of 2022, Michelle was one of two non-entertainers on the list, and she ranked number five. (The other was Meghan Markle, ranking number two). Both women possess a pedigree marked by multiple college degrees; an impressive career in law; a confident, yet non-threatening (to most) presence; and a politically-based public image.

Michelle Obama became a household name when her husband, Barack, became the 44th President of the United States of America. Kamala Harris became a household name when she became the first Black person and woman to serve as Vice President of the United States of America. One would think that Kamala would garner just as much if not more, attention, celebration, and love as Michelle since Kamala is an elected official versus Michelle being the plus one to an elected official. Not to mention, Kamala graduated from an HBCU and is a member of a Black, Greek-letter organization.

Why don’t we give Kamala the same love and attention we give Michelle? Further, why don’t we give Kamala the same love and attention we gave Barack when he was in office?
