This weekend is the 4th of July, and there will be no shortage of gatherings planned. This is peak summertime, peak cookout season. Whether it’s in the backyard or the neighborhood park or on the beach, charcoal and propane grills will be lit, there may well be a potato salad debate afoot, and it’s definitely hot enough to make everyone thirsty. So, what are we drinking?
If I’m at any kind of outdoor gathering, my husband is more than likely drinking beer and I imagine myself holding a classic red cup — or one of the new aluminum party cups I keep seeing advertised on TV, to keep my drink colder and recycle later. What’s in my cup? Something sweet, refreshing, and festive that doesn’t require a ton of prep or effort to be delightfully intoxicating. For day drinks, I prefer to go with something fruity and light. And for an occasion like the 4th, it’s only natural to go for a red drink or something that incorporates blueberries and raspberries or strawberries to give that festive razzle dazzle. Here are some super easy drink ideas you can make in a pitcher or punch bowl for your long weekend festivities.
