Dear ZORA Family,

How’s everybody doing? Y’all good? More than a month into #QuarantineLife, I find myself drifting in and out of reverie. The illustration above, which accompanied a story we ran recently, is a total mood, and lately it’s been speaking to me in ways beyond what I believe the artist intended. For me, it symbolizes the stillness our current situation invites us to summon up while we have the opportunity.

Now I have to admit, while I’ve tried meditation, it hasn’t necessarily stuck with me. But I have been spending quite a bit of time reminiscing. The memories that have been flooding back harken to moments I haven’t thought about in ages, like the time my mother and I lip-synced in our apartment living room to The Staple Singers, or the delight I took in dressing up in my mother’s jewelry and heels. What memories are you cherishing right now?

I guess I’m just subconsciously searching for the sweetness of life that felt pure and perfectly imperfect. We could all use some of that as we reset our expectations for the uncertainty of what is to come.

In what ways are you coping? Let me invite you to please share your best tips; your ideas might end up in an upcoming ZORA story. In the meantime, I’ve made some recommendations below for reading that might help you push through this week with peace and grace.
