It’s Time To Step Up And Lead

Some of us don’t have the passion to lead because we haven’t had the privilege to sit in the presence of a triumphant leader. How can we know how to show up as a role model if we haven’t had a nearby example of it? Plus, we’ve seen the consequences and fear-filled tactics that come with being a Black revolutionary — from the media attacks, deaths, accusations, attempted silencing…the list goes on. Our skin alone is perceived as a threat, so Black skin with a unique point of view or trailblazing idea? Intimidating.

It’s almost to the point where it feels easier to just put our heads down and turn a blind eye to the bullshit happening around us. This is a trauma response passed down from our parents, grandparents, and ancestors— to accept certain circumstances because it’s not worth putting ourselves or our families in danger. We’re taught to pick our battles, but today’s battles aren’t the same as they were 50–60 years ago. Essentially, the root is definitely the same, but they’re clothed differently. Oppressors have had to adapt to the truth (though they may disagree) that it is our birthright to live in our authentic truth because we’ve had generations of leaders who went against the grain and fought for what they believed or deemed possible, so we can be in the position that we are today. We now have the resources and opportunities available to us to thrive in our respective lanes, even whilst still being subjected to racist and patriarchal outdated timelines. If that’s not magick, I don’t know what is!

This week I feel a powerful call from our great honorable ancestors of the African Diaspora to take a stance and not forget who we are, leaning into our quirks and inimitable qualities. We are encouraged to dance with all of the things that make us unique and not shrink to fit into any molds carved out for us. We were all created with stardust, living manifestations of the divine tasked with vital roles to elevate the collective. We weren’t created to do the same things, follow the same paths, believe in the same things. This week, Spirit wants us to stand with our individual beliefs, remain…
