So When All Else Fails in Policing, Blame the Single Black Mother?
Apparently, Black single motherhood can be linked to everything wrong with American police brutality

According to the recent 2021 U.S. Census Bureau, there are over 4 million single Black mothers in America. Black women account for 64% of single parents in the U.S.; — a slight decrease from 67% 10 years ago in 2011.
While the unique narrative around single Black motherhood has evolved, the betterment of its state is currently a moot point. Because apparently, Black single mothers can now be linked to everything wrong with violent police crime in America.
Whew, the delusion.
On January 7th, 2023, 29-year-old Tyre Nichols was severely beaten by five police officers during a traffic stop in Memphis Tennessee. Nichols was hospitalized in critical condition but died three days later.
According to police reports, officers pulled Nichols over for alleged reckless driving and claimed that such action occurred after he resisted and reached for one of the officers' guns. However, the video footage released on January 27th shows the officers pulling Nichols from the car, using pepper spray and a taser on him. Nichols managed to break away, but when officers caught up with him, he was beaten viciously. Nichols is also shown never fighting back or reaching for an officer’s gun.
The five officers: Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Justin Smith were fired nearly two weeks after the incident and were all arrested and charged on January 26th with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and kidnapping, and official misconduct and oppression.
While most police brutality cases have their share of characteristics that makes each incident unique, there are also underlying factors that remain with each case; — specifically against African Americans.
And that is largely race matters and how it impacts the outcome of police encounters. And while the vicious beating and tragic death of Tyre Nichols reignited similar incidents such as the Rodney King beating, what we didn’t expect was for more than a few…
