LLong before social distancing became the new norm, blogger-turned-author Samantha Irby was already employing its tactics — staying at home, minding her business, and sharing jokes on the internet. One must look no further than her New York Times bestseller, We’re Never Meeting in Real Life, for proof that she’s always been about this life.

In 2013, Irby published her first collection of essays, Meaty, based on her popular blog at the time: bitches gotta eat (so named for the cookout scene from Boyz n the Hood). Now she’s back with a screenwriting credit to her name, a third book, Wow, No Thank You., out March 31, and a forthcoming TV adaptation of her first memoir.

“If they let me put this on TV, my heart will burst with joy because it’s so ridiculous and dumb and bad, and I can’t wait to be like ‘no, really, they let me make a diarrhea show,’” jokes Irby, who is known for her literal bathroom humor, refreshing candor, and real talk about bad sex.
