Jeopardy's host steps down but stays as executive producer
Can LeVar Burton host Jeopardy — now that the white man (not the right man) has stepped down? Most people agree that Mike Richards was not the right choice -he just has the right complexion, connections, and the “conservative look”.
I am so disappointed that LeVar Burton wasn’t given the hosting contract in the first place! There are so many good and valid reasons why he was and still is a far better choice:
LeVar Burton is a beloved television personality who is smart, funny, charming, and handsome. He’s personable, exudes quiet confidence and he’s highly engaging. He also happens to be a TV legend!
You would think LeVar would be the obvious choice after his flawless host performances, his modest but highly successful campaign, and 260,000+ signatures from the Change.org petition.
But no -Jeopardy execs had to go with “the look” and status quo versus LeVar’s qualifications — ignoring public outcry and most importantly viewer’s choice.
Sadly, this is what Black and brown people experience every day. We can have all the qualifications in the world…
