It’s too soon to reopen our country

Dear ZORA Family,

Over the weekend I had a lengthy talk with my father-in-law, who feels that we’ve gone too far and should lift the restrictions to this #QuarantineLife sooner rather than later.

It all started when I told him that our offices would be closed through the summer — his first question was “Why?” I reminded him that more than 50,000 people in the U.S. have died of the Coronavirus over the last 2 months and that, I feel, should be reason enough to exercise caution.

Clearly there are others who feel the same way. The pressure being put on governors to reopen, borders on bullying. And yet, I’ve been blown away by the number of people who filled the beaches in Florida and other states over the weekend, as if we weren’t operating under a new normal.

I don’t know if it’s the strain of being at home for such a prolonged period of time or our innate yearnings to be free from constraints, but I feel the tension the country is under right now, and I wish there were clearer answers.

I hope that you are weathering this storm with grace and resilience, as we approach a new month. Stay safe, and in time I hope the answers we come to will make more sense in the weeks to come.

Stay in touch,
