Insecure’s Executive Producer on That Epic Season 4 Finale
The emotional damage of falling out with your friends, explained

Spoiler alert: This story contains spoilers from the Season 4 finale of Insecure.
Just as many fans were beginning to fawn over an Issa-Lawrence reunion and others were warming up to the idea, Insecure goes and drops the bomb to close out season four. While rumors of Condola possibly blowing up the happy moment circulated, there were fans who doubted Insecure would do us like that. Well, they did. And, in Insecure fashion, we have been left with more questions than answers. So ZORA caught up with Insecure executive producer and writer Amy Aniobi to chat about season four, particularly the finale’s last-minute fireworks. After all, who better to dish than Aniobi? She has been on the Issa Rae team since the very beginning, with The Misadventures of AWKWARD Black Girl. What she has to say about the P-bomb, who Lawrence really is, the state of Issa and Molly’s friendship, and more may be too hot for some to handle. So do know that you have been warned.

ZORA: Why did you guys reunite Issa and Lawrence this season?
Amy Aniobi: We’ve always talked about wanting to get them back together and it just came down to a matter of how and when. We felt like there had been enough growth for the two of them to try to play out our burning question of what would Issa and Lawrence 2.0 look like? That’s what the impetus was for seeing them back together. In the room, we were also interested in exploring what it looks like for a Black man to take a woman back who cheated. Those are all the reasons why.
Why go there with the pregnancy?
In terms of the pregnancy, we were just like, ‘Life is not perfect.’ This is not the end of the show. Your story isn’t over until it’s over, and there are going to be all these complications. So it’s just like even though 2.0 you is here, there’s still things from your past that can creep up and create difficult situations in your present. And even though we kind of threw a very big wrench in it with a pregnancy, that is a very big situation from the past that creates havoc in the present. Sorry, it just felt very…
