Ilhan Omar Is the Bravest Person in Congress

I truly don’t know how she does it

For those of you who follow politics here in the United States, it’s been difficult to miss the story surrounding conservative representative Lauren Boebert, and congresswoman Ilhan Omar. After not one, but two videos surfaced of Boebert doing what appeared to be her idea of a comedic bit for her supporters in which she refers to Omar as “the jihad squad” and implied she was a terrorist, it should come as no surprise that her rhetoric brought on real-world consequences. At a press conference, Omar held up a phone and played a voicemail left to her office after Boebert refused to make a public apology, where an unidentified man could be heard threatening to take her “off the face of this f*cking earth”, and stating she wouldn’t be living “much longer”.

I keep scrolling up as I type, looking at the picture of Ilhan Omar I chose to accompany my writing. I keep looking at that expression on her face. The pain, and the strength in her eyes.The way she’s biting her lip but looking straight ahead, undeterred.

Ilhan Omar is unequivocally the bravest person in congress.

We should not have to hear that voicemail in order to acknowledge her argument that the rhetoric coming from Lauren Boebert has real-world consequences. Obviously, Omar should…
