I Get Where Madonna’s Head Is At

The 2023 Grammy Awards were held earlier this month, and there was plenty to talk about between who wore what and who should or shouldn’t have won which particular award. Most of the talk, however, was about Madonna’s face.

Madonna’s current, distorted face is an appropriate, and disturbing, topic for discussion because Madonna has deliberately made both her face and her body targets of public scrutiny for decades. She has celebrated her every physical transformation with videos and made an even more explicit commodity of her body with her coffee table book, Sex. Critics complained then, that she had “gone too far.” Little did we know.

Madonna was not happy with the buzz, and she had a few things to say about those who dared to comment with something other than compliments. Those of us who are “criticizing” Madonna’s face are not people who are misogynistic, ageist, or who have nothing better to do. We have not opined on whether or not Madonna is “right” or “wrong.” We are commenting on what the consequences can be when vanity, fear of aging, and having too…
