We live in a time when every day has a special assignment for celebration. Aside from public holidays, now our calendars and social media feeds are so often assigned to a specific food or drink. I wasn’t aware of most of these until my adult years and now I want to celebrate them all, yet I always manage to log onto social media and THEN find out it’s Pizza Day or National Taco Day or (insert fun culinary or beverage day here).
Just as in the food world, every booze has its day. Especially wine. I recently realized that most varieties of wine have a designated day of celebration. So if you’re like me and want to be aware of when your favorite tipple is to be celebrated nationally (or internationally), read on for our handy dandy list of wine days, plus a few tried and tested bottle recommendations.
August 4: National White Wine Day.
August 18: is International Pinot Noir Day
Cabernet Day is celebrated in late August/early September, on the Thursday before American Labor Day every year.
September 10: Port Wine Day is celebrated on the 10th of September.
November 7: International Merlot Day is celebrated every November 7th.
National Zinfandel Day is the third Wednesday in November.
December 20: Sangria Day
December 31: Champagne Day in America (which makes sense, Happy New Year!). The French celebrate Champagne Day on the third Friday in October every year. It’s OK to celebrate twice!🥂
March 13: International Riesling Day is on the 13th of March.
First Friday in May: International Sauvignon Blanc Day is celebrated annually/
May 9: World Moscato Day. Fun Fact: this unofficial holiday was launched by the Gallo family in 2011.
May 17: Pinot Grigio Day
International Chardonnay Day is celebrated on the Thursday before Memorial Day every year.
