Don’t Get So Busy That You Forget About Yourself
“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence. It is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” — Audre Lorde, author, activist, and fierce feminist
Earlier this week, I was having a super productive day: killing it during conference calls, answering emails, reading, and writing. I even found time to give my friends some advice. I felt really proud and successful, but then I looked up at the end of my super awesome day and realized… I forgot to eat. All day.
What’s the point of having a super productive day if I couldn’t find time to do the basic things to take care of myself? Is that really even productive? I prioritized everything else and completely forgot about me.
ZORA fam, we just want to check in and remind you to always make yourself a priority. When balancing work, family, relationships, and responsibilities, it’s easy for some things to fall to the backburner, but your self-care should not be one of those things.
Audre Lorde’s famous quote reminds us that you must always find time for yourself. It’s how you truly get ahead. You can be nothing to no one if you don’t put yourself first occasionally. Tell us your favorite self-care tips using the hashtag #ZORACheckIn on Twitter and Instagram.
