Dominique Fishback Is The Real Star of Netflix’s ‘Project Power’

“Pay attention to Dominique Fishback,” Canadian film critic Radheyan Simonpillai tweeted the day of Project Power’s release.

Pretty soon it will be impossible not to. Her talent is just that great. As Robin, a New Orleans teen who sells “Power,” a drug that supposedly amplifies your superpower but also has some potentially deadly drawbacks, it’s hard to keep your eyes off the Brooklyn native. That’s an impressive feat alongside Oscar winner Jamie Foxx and Hollywood veteran Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Robin is friendly with top New Orleans cop Frank (Gordon-Levitt) who buys Power from her. His superpower is developing skin so thick it can repel bullets, a useful skill for a cop. An aspiring rapper, Robin sells Power to raise money for the medical care her severely diabetic mother, Irene, needs. It becomes complicated when Art (Foxx), a former military ace, tracks her down via the phone of her dead friend and supplier, to get to who’s really putting Power on the streets. As the sci-fi action thriller unfolds, Art and Robin develop an extremely touching father-daughter bond that is hard to recall being centered on any screen for a Black man and a Black girl.
