“I think every single imperfection adds to your beauty. I’d rather be imperfect than perfect.” — Sonam Kapoor, Indian film actress and philanthropist

Hi ZORA fam. I just want to check in and make sure you’re being nice to yourself.

The other day after a therapy session, I felt really down. I felt like I had so much to work on and overcome to become a “better person.” I think a lot of us are taking this time to attempt to better ourselves in some way. Some people are turning to astrology and birth charts. Others are working on their summer bodies. Some folks are turning to therapy or journaling. Self-care and self-improvement have become the way of the day.

But I love this quote from actress Sonam Kapoor because it reminds me that I’m already the best me I can be. Having some imperfections doesn’t mean something is wrong with me. My flaws are what make me, well, me!

We shouldn’t strive for perfection, because if we do, we’ll always fail. You’re constantly going to be growing and changing and evolving. But that doesn’t mean who you are now is broken or bad. We’re all just doing the best we can.

Have you ever had a moment when you were particularly down on yourself? What did you do to bring yourself out of that slump? Let us know on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #ZORACheckIn.
