SPOILER ALERT: This essay goes into detail about Netflix’s Squid Game.

Like many of you, I've spent the last few weeks immersed in a bright, colorful world of the South Korean dystopian drama Squid Game. This 9-episode series smashed expectations and has become Netflix's biggest series release ever. In America, we rarely get to see Korean dramas, and after seeing this one, many of us will be on the lookout for more.

The players wore teal-ish green jumpsuits, while the proctors wore red jumpsuits with either a white circle, a square, a triangle, or a box imprinted on a black fencing mask. If you haven't seen the series, think of the real-life consequences of Hunger Games blended with the fun-laced imagery of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, but much more succinct. There are no extra items in the scenes, and the colors and drama make it hard to look away. Plus, the first game is so relatable — red light, green light.

As the game begins, we learn a few things. For one, even though the red light green light is a child's game, the proctors will "eliminate you," if you lose, which the players find out means…
