Black Authors Are Making Aliens the New Heartthrobs
Authors are crossing the lines from interracial to interspecies love, but more importantly, are readers loving these books?
In 2018, I was in a reading slump and was tired of reading Black hood books(although they have their own special charm), and moved on to Interracial books featuring Black women as the love interest. I enjoyed these books because they brought fresh adventure and characters which cured my reading fatigue. Now, buff brightly colored, horned, ripped, and fanged dudes from outer space are stealing the covers of books(and beds).
Is art imitating life?
There are many conversations being had online because of social media. We are all familiar with some Black men’s feelings about Black women — their feelings are not positive at all.
In fact, I was watching a video from Tik Tok earlier where a Black guy was asked which type of women he would exclude from dating, and he said “Black women” with a smile (meanwhile, a white woman said she will not date anyone Black).
At times, I find that even non-Black men say rude things about Black women, and so sometimes it is easy to read interracial books, and other times I question if they reflect reality…or…
