During season four of Insecure, we’re learning a lot more about Condola Hayes, who co-planned a block party with Issa while dating Lawrence at the same time. In real life, actress Christina Elmore, who plays Condola, can’t relate. “Thank the Lord I have not been in some mess like that!” she says of the complicated situation of getting booed up with your colleague’s ex. “What I appreciated about this whole scenario is no one was trying to be messy. They just found themselves in this mess.”

While Elmore, a married mom of a three-year-old who also stars in Lena Waithe’s Twenties on BET, has avoided the complicated matters of her character, she respects Condola’s aversion to drama. “I love that she’s sort of ‘above the muck’ of it all,” she says.

The California native recently spoke to ZORA about her Insecure role, the show’s fashion (spoiler alert: She’s unbothered by your hot takes on Condola’s style), and how surreal life is now after working on The Last Ship, a show about a global pandemic.
