8 Tips For Women of Color Who Need a Spring Self-Care Plan

Woosah… You’ve taken care of everyone else. Now it’s time to tend to yourself.

As of recently, there are tons of people who have decided to prioritize self-care, some Black women like myself — and women of color overall — still find ourselves severely overworked and constantly exhausted. The myth of the strong Black woman and trying to live up to unrealistic expectations have been linked to a host of detrimental health conditions such as high blood pressure, hypertension, and various mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.

But enough is enough. As we continue to enjoy spring, I have decided to invest in a much-needed spring self-care plan. After doing a little research and speaking with a few mental health experts, I have identified eight tips and tricks for creating the perfect self-care plan to take a much-needed woo-sah.

1. Make up your own rules

Experts say that people often have a preconceived notion of self-care and think that they have to engage in specific tasks. But self-care is what you make it and we can tailor the perfect plan around our needs and lifestyle. You can opt to build a daily, weekly, quarterly, or annual self-care regimen.
